Britain has never had a revolution. But on 5 November 1605, there was a failed attempt at one known as the Gunpowder Plot involving a man named Guy Fawkes. The anniversary of this date has since been marked across Britain as Guy Fawkes Night. It started as a state holiday (with anti-catholic overtones) to celebrate crushing the revolution but quickly became subverted as a way to mock the establishment and is still celebrated mostly ironically today, often with an ‘honoury Guy’ burnt instead.   Chris Lautre, our treasurer, is going to be hosting this year’s festivities at his wonderful estate. Join us for an evening of celebration, good food, fireworks and relax in the sauna. As this event isn’t about black-ties and fancy clothes, please be advised that it can be a bit wet and soggy underfoot. For ladies – high heels may not be the best plan.   Sign up now and you will get food, a fireworks show and a welcome drink for the grown-ups! You can also choose to take the transfer from the city centre and back.   What to bring: You can bring your own drinks and food, however, there will be a self-service bar where drinks can be bought and some food offered by us as well. Don’t forget to bring a towel if you want to use the saunas.   Dress code: As warm as you can! (And swimsuit optional inside the saunas).   Free entry for Children.   Schedule: (optional) 17:15 – Transfer from Tallinn city centre (in front of Viru Hotel, Viru väljak 4) 18:00 – 19:00 – Celebration begins 19:00 – V for Vendetta screening starts & sauna is ready 21:00 – Historical discussion, followed by the burning of the effigy and fireworks. 22:00 – Finish 22:00 – First transfer back to Tallinn 23:00 – 2nd transfer back to Tallinn
